An Oral Hygiene and Preventative Medicine Course
Learning the ins and outs of oral hygiene and preventative medicine is essential for success in the dental assistant field. One of a dental assistant’s primary functions is to administer preventative treatment to keep teeth and gums healthy. Together with dentists, dental assistants also help patients build their own at-home oral hygiene plans. Thus, both preventative dental care and oral hygiene are key topics that all dental assistants should understand comprehensively.
DA300 prepares students by furthering their knowledge of these essential topics and more. Building off the foundation set by DA100 and DA200, DA300 delves further into a number of subject areas, including preventive dental care, nutrition, oral hygiene methods, vital signs, pharmacology and medical emergencies. Students will benefit from detailed lectures on these topics by instructors with decades of experience in the dental field. Seminar discussions, class reviews and quizzes, group projects, and in-class presentations will help students further their knowledge of oral hygiene, preventative dental care, and other important topics.
Learn How to Use Dental Materials
In addition to covering a number of essential dental topics, DA300 gives students the opportunity to develop proficiency with a wide range of dental materials and techniques. As its name suggests, DA300: Dental Materials & Prevention delves deeper into the operation of materials essential to the dental assistant position, including mirrors, sickle probes, dental drills, scalers, suction devices, syringes, molds, and more. Under the direction of class instructors, students will get to practice manipulation of and armamentarium of these dental materials to perform a number of essential dental assistant functions, including restorative work, taking impressions, applying cements, liners and bases, tooth brushing, flossing, and taking blood pressure. Correct usage of these dental materials and subsequent performance of the above techniques is covered extensively in DA300 to help students prepare for immediate, successful matriculation into a dental office.
